A True RvR Zone

I died a little bit inside when I thought about posting this, but I just have to do it.

Wingergrasp, a true RvR zone.

Sadly it is not found in Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning. Wintergrasp will be part of World of Warcraft's upcoming expansion: Wrath of the Lich King. The notes on Wintergrasp are the things I expected out of WAR's RvR areas, but sadly have not found.

Now, just because Blizzard is beating Mythic at their own game with a single zone, does not mean WoW is suddenly a RvR game. Wintergrasp will suffer the same fate in WoW that other open world PvP objectives have suffered: Wintergrasp will not be worth anyone's time compared to battleground or arena grinding.

So, Blizzard gets a +1 for open world PvP, but a -1 for letting instanced content dominate open world content. Mythic, take notes, learn, and come December; patch 1.1 better do SOMETHING to open RvR zones other than giving more experience per kill. Give us a fucking reason to be there other than the keeps.

  1. Maybe they'll add better equpment for this event than for pvp points. Semi-PVE-PVP gear would lure lots of players into such activities, i think.

WAR's design was faulty to begin with. So 2003, in all senses. I'm not trolling around here, simply too tired from composing a more constructive post tonight. University fatigue.. -,-

You need to be a Required rank to use the siege equip. Great go PvP grind the three lame PvP instances to get rank so you can do RvR in one..ONE zone. Sounds like another epic fail on Bliz with PvP. They need to stick to PvE.

You're basing that off a feature list? Have you played it? Have you played it in release? No. Blizzard has proven nothing except that they market well.

The RvR zones during Warhammer beta were busy and exciting, not the doldrum they are now. There's nothing like a mass playerbase seeking the ez-mode to ruin a game's intended experience.

Once the novelty wears off Wintergrasp will be a bust too.

  5. Yes, I'm basing it off some design notes and Blizzard's marketing. Yes, Wintergrasp will wear off as a novelty at some point. Yes, people will continue on grinding bgs and arenas instead of Wintergrasp if Blizzard doesn't give phat loots out for visiting the zone.

Still doesn't explain why Mythic created empty RvR zones and I think the Wintergrasp design is absolutely what RvR zones should be like in WAR. RvR zones should be something you look forward to visiting and doing stuff in, not just that red lake on the map that is void of EVERYTHING other than a keep.

  6. I played Lake Wintergrasp and it's great. I've had fights in the beta with hundreds of people and it was crazy. The zone is an event with a timer. The faction that controls the castle gets some kind of badge from dungeons that can be traded in for gear. You can expect that every time it's time for a fight, the place will be full. Plus you get honor and arena points for fighting in wintergrasp. So not only does it give your faction acces to other gear, you get lot's of points.

They also have a system that gives more siege engines to the faction that has the least people in wintergrasp. The siege engines are amazing. The ones to destroy the walls have space for a driver, a gunner and 2 passengers. The planes are fun but kind of hard to control. It's huge and you really feel the chaos of a big battle.

Maybe, maybe not. I think it's a mistake to try and guess now what will happen with a brand new game mechanic, which Wintergrasp is.

So wintergrasp fixes stun-locks, chain fear, one shots, and makes healers/tanks useful?

    No?

Ah okay, just checking on that 'real' RvR bullet point list.

WAR has the system in place for great PvP, the players just need to catch up. WoW will never have great PvP thanks to its PvE engine, and no amount of welfare epics will change that.

As others haev stated, it's too bad Blizzard does not stick to PvE, and MMO fans could have two solid options.

  9. So wintergrasp fixes stun-locks, chain fear, one shots, and makes healers/tanks useful?

Stun-locks and chain fears, as well as one shots can happen it's true. They can also be countered and don't work as well on all classes.

Even if those do work fairly consistently when one class attacks another (e.g. a rogue stun-locking a mage), WoW PvP isn't balanced on a 1v1 basis and I don't think it should.

Healers are useful in WoW PvP. What makes you think they aren't?

Tanks not useful in PvP - I'll grant you that. Warrior tanks need to respec to Arms or Fury, in which case the pwn in PvP. Ferals just switch to cat form. Paladin tanks also need to respec. Sucks, but not an insurmountable issue. Yep, WoW isn't perfect. I've yet to see a game that is.

Wintergrasp sounds a great idea and i am sure it is fun but how long has WoW been going before they made something like this, what 4 years? Plus they only implement something like this when WAR is doing the same. This i like - Blizz are having to implement new stuff and not just random dungeons and instances but entirely new things for the game

Sure WAR isn't perfect but neither was WOW when it launched. I know we should demand a non buggy game but MMO's on release will have them and its alot better than the disapointment of Conan!
