Warhammer Expansion: Rise of the Horned Rat

Exciting news today about the first Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning expansion entitled Rise of the Horned Rat.
In the Depths of the Under-Empire a Prophet has risen, claiming to be chosen by the Horned Rat, the devious god of the Skaven people, to lead the Skaven Empire to victory over the surface dwellers. Uniting all the clans under one banner, the Horned One and The Lords of Decay have began the long dreaded invasion of the surface world. The bowls of the Skavenblight growl with the endless hunger of millions while great tunnels open up in all the lands spilling forth legion upon legion of hateful Rat-kin.

This is totally fake by the way, but some people are gullible. Whats sad, is the guy who made this up, TOLD EVERYONE IT WAS FAKE.
The primary reason you might not have seen it before is because it’s 100% fan generated content, Mythic is in no way involved. So short of the hand of God none of this will ever be anything more then conception on our website. While we have had one or two ideas picked up in past games, the odds of Mythic picking up an entire expansion from us is very unlikely.

But if the fans and players like it maybe they can apply some pressure once the project is finished, and if the ideas are solid then who knows!

  1. The sick thing is that some of these ideas are actually good.

  2. So basically: that's the part of the game we didn't nor will ever get.

    That explains why it sucks.

Is it too late to sell the game to a real developer?

  3. What ever happened to those other cities. Hadn't Mythic promised to have them out in a content patch soon after release? It has been almost a year now.

No promises were made. It was stated that they maybe would fit them in at some point in a free expansion.

Mark Jacobs, I believe, can be quoted as saying they would never charge for them in an expansion pack and the cities, if added, would be a free content addition. However, MJB is no longer employed at Mythic :P

That would make for a really good expansion and fix a great many of the flaws with WAR, as well as deliver on failed promises (like beard growth and bigger orcs). I could care less about the capital cities really, what would have more of them add to the game?

Nevertheless . . Mythic, make it and I'll come back to WAR. Or make something equally as ambitious, WAR needs a serious kick in the pants if you ever hope to get out of the slump you're in.

  6. Oh hallelujah.

I've been saying for ages the game needed a third faction. I'll probably buy the game when this comes out.

  7. Ah crap, just read the end of your blog post about how it's all fake.

  8. I came across this stuff on the WAR forums. Someone typed up a pretty thorough idea of what could be in a potential expansion. Some guy put in a comment and linked to the Valhalla blog. So I went and checked it out.

It was quite thorough but I'm a skeptical person so I left a note on their blog looking for some specifics. The reply you posted is probably the one made to me. You read it exactly as I did ... nothing to see here ... move along. I wasn't going to waste time on message boards so I posted on their site.

You can see the notes I posted on theri site and their answers. Heck, I could create a blog and list out a bunch on concepts and ideas, too. The wishy-washy answers they gave told me all I needed to know.

Shame ... the stuff listed sounds pretty cool although a one-race faction was the one thing I feel their "concepting" fell short.

As far as any real expansions ... I have some ideas and feel after Aion's trial month runs out and Mythic elevates 1.3.2 we might actually here something credible.
