Reading Goal for 2008

Upstate Geeks, a new online hangout opened after the fall out of my local non-video gaming scene, spurred me to consider my reading plans for 2008.

While the original poster plans to do five books a month, I don't see myself hitting five books in the entire year. At one point in my life, two books a month was a good average, but I never read hardcore (probably due to my gaming addiction). So, my goal is four books read by the end of 2008, not including the few hundred pages left in my current book, A Storm of Swords by George RR Martin.

My tentative reading schedule:

Finish A Storm of Swords by George RR Martin
A Feast For Crows by George RR martin
His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novik

...and if I like the Novik novel, I'll finish the year out with the trilogy.

What are your reading goals for 2008?

  1. I'm a reading fanatic and tend to finish a book in about 6 hours. I seesaw back and forth between gaming and reading that way I get a good build up of new material.

2008 Releases I want to read.

    Jim Butcher - Small Favors
    John Ringo - Manxome Foe
John Scalzi - The Sagan Diary
    Christopher Paolini - Brisingr
    Terry Goodkind - Confessor
S.M. Stirling - In the Court of the Crimson Kings

  2. That's actually a great idea HG although when I first saw this title I assumed "upstate" meant upstate NY not SC :)

I don't have any must-reads for 2008, and I don't concern myself with only the latest releases. I just peruse the shelves or amazon.com until something appeals to me.

An idea: perhaps your local group could form a reading group where you all read the same book then discuss? Or something social like that.

  3. Lol, I've done the book club thing once and I just can't stand too much discussion about a book. I guess it is because I personalize the story a bit and like it the way I imagine it in my head.

I'm trying to just read more in general, but I'm also cheating by including graphic novels in my reading list.

  5. I actually am reading RR Martin aswell. I just started a Clash of Kings! It's been great so far.

I am also reading Frankenstein by Mary Shelly. I plan on reading a couple novels from the 19th century this year.

  6. My plan is to read 50-75. That's what I did the past two years. And, for bonus fun, blog a review of each. Hence my Blogspot blog.
