New World: Legacy of Crassus 2024

legacy of crassus

The Legacy of Crassus event is back in New World starting today so I wanted to break down how players should approach the event and rewards to shoot for.

First let's go over the daily limits:

  • The first 3 kills each day net unique event bonus rewards
    • Event armor and weapons (3 per day)
    • 15x Dark matter (45 per day)
    • 1 Obsidian Gypsum (3 per day)
  • Note: All unique bonus event rewards can be earned after 12 kills (so 4 days, 3 kills per day)

To go with the limited bonus daily rewards each kill will also net random armor/weapon drops including a low chance at Brimstone Sands named items along with consumables such as health potions.

The dark matter alone makes completing the event 3x a day worth it so I'd at minimum go for that.  The random item rewards should also net a few extra dark matter from salvaging.

As far as weapon/armor rewards of particular interest there isn't too much (at least from my view).  The main reward I am going for is the Wrath of Damicus great axe.  The axe comes with Thwarting Strikes and Enfeebling Maelstrom and a random third perk.  Per NWDB it can be upgraded to 700 GS and the third perk can be changed.  This makes it an ideal great axe!

To a lesser degree there may be some value in the Vesuvius fire staff for PvE.  Lots of folks sleep on the Mortal Refreshment perk but combining this staff with Refreshing Pillar of Fire on your armor (since the staff has a weapon perk already) can result in a machine gun of pillars coming out in PvE clump fights.  So niche use in PvE for anyone interested.

Lastly, as a housing items hoarder, the cyclops statues look sweet!  Good luck in the event y'all!

Pax Dei Early Access

pax dei
Continuing the "heartlessgamer playing around with AI" I asked Bing to summarize the news from the past day with Pax Dei's plans for Early Access.

NVIDIA featured Pax Dei gameplay footage during their CES 2024 special address. Mainframe Industries confirmed NVIDIA DLSS 3 will be included in "day one" of Pax Dei's launch. After a successful alpha test in late 2023, the game developers affirmed the highly-anticipated game is to enter early access in the coming Spring ¹. The game is a medieval flavored social sandbox MMO from developers from Blizzard and Remedy Entertainment ². The game will be available on PC and will feature AI accelerated DLSS 3 ². The early access offers are almost finalized with monetization confirmed as a single purchase grants access ¹. There is no specific date for Pax Dei's early access launch, but a second alpha test phase is in motion with sign-ups available on their website ¹.

The Dangers of Cheating in Online Games: Beyond the Pixels

cheaters in the finals
With cheating running rampant in The Finals I figured I'd let ChatGPT tell us why cheating is bad.

Introduction

Online gaming has become a global phenomenon, connecting players from different corners of the world in virtual realms where competition and camaraderie thrive. However, the rise of cheating in online games poses a significant threat to the integrity of these digital spaces. Cheating not only undermines the spirit of fair play but also tarnishes the gaming experience for everyone involved. In this blog post, we will delve into the reasons why cheating in online games is detrimental to the gaming community as a whole.

  1. Unfair Advantage: Cheating grants players an unfair advantage over their opponents. Whether it's using aimbots, wallhacks, or other malicious software, cheaters gain an edge that goes against the principles of fair competition. This not only frustrates those playing legitimately but also erodes the sense of accomplishment that comes from genuine skill and effort.

  2. Erosion of Trust: Trust is the foundation of any healthy gaming community. When players suspect that others may be cheating, it creates an atmosphere of distrust and suspicion. Genuine achievements are called into question, and players may lose faith in the legitimacy of the competition. This erosion of trust can have long-lasting effects on the community, making it less enjoyable for everyone involved.

  3. Deterioration of Sportsmanship: Online games provide a platform for players to showcase their skills and sportsmanship. Cheating, however, undermines the very essence of fair play. It replaces the thrill of competition with a cynical pursuit of victory at any cost. This deterioration in sportsmanship not only affects the cheater but also influences the behavior of others in the community.

  4. Financial Implications: Many online games have thriving economies, with in-game items, skins, and virtual currencies having real-world value. Cheating can disrupt these economies by flooding the market with illegitimate items or devaluing the efforts of legitimate players. Additionally, game developers invest significant resources in creating anti-cheat measures, diverting resources that could be better spent on improving the gaming experience for all.

  5. Negative Impact on Game Developers: Constant efforts are required to combat cheating in online games, diverting valuable resources from the development of new content, features, and improvements. As developers struggle to stay ahead of cheaters, the overall quality of the gaming experience may suffer, affecting the enjoyment of honest players.

  6. Legal Consequences: Cheating in online games can lead to legal consequences. Many game developers have strict terms of service that prohibit cheating, and violations can result in legal action. In extreme cases, cheaters may face fines or even imprisonment, highlighting the severity of this issue.

Conclusion

Cheating in online games is not merely a violation of the rules; it represents a threat to the very essence of fair play, sportsmanship, and community trust. As players, it is our responsibility to foster a gaming environment that encourages skill development, camaraderie, and healthy competition. By understanding the negative impact of cheating, we can collectively work towards creating a gaming community that thrives on integrity and mutual respect.

What Surprised Me In 2023

To go along with my 2023 disappointments I wanted to share some surprises.

 The Finals

the finals
The Finals surprise launched in December and I've not stopped playing since.  It is one of the most refreshing FPS games I've played in a while and I have fun every time I log in and play.  My teenager is also playing now that he has his own gaming PC and is the first FPS we've played together.  I'd recommend the game to anyone that is interested; it is free to play.

 Throne and Liberty Turn Around

Throne and Liberty (T&L) blasted onto the scene in 2023 with an amazing trailer and lots of promise as "the next big MMORPG" only to follow up the initial hype train with a train wreck of a beta test where a completely different game seemed to have appeared.  Littered with mobile-game features like auto play and static combat the game was written off as "another Asian pay 2 win grinder".

However the T&L development team took the harsh feedback to heart and re-engineered major aspects of the game.  Auto play was removed, the grind was significantly reduced, and combat was updated to be more fluid.  It is still a tab-target combat system but gone is the static combat where you were stuck in place.  Characters now can move with most of the combat abilities and from all accounts the system is better for it.

T&L also launched in Korea in December... with the changes noted above.  Again that is a big turn around from the development team.  From various folks that jumped into the Korean launch it also seems like the game is in a good spot and the changes have addressed many of the initial concerns.

I am adding T&L to my "want to play" list for 2024.

 Blaugust 2023

I didn't know about Blaugust until I came across it via Mastodon (gamepad.club instance specifically).  I had a lot of fun with my posts last August and look forward to Blaugust 2024!  You can see my Blaugust 2023 tagged posts here.

2024 Blogging Stuff

I posted in early 2023 that I wanted to avoid the normal "year in review" and "prediction" posts and instead covered a few things I wanted to get done in blogging during the year.  Before I set goals for 2024 let's look back at the 2023 objectives:

  • 5 posts per week
  • Share more "this was my experience in a game" posts
  • Do some video content

Other than the video content I hit each of these objectives.  I hit more than 5 posts per week (5.5 per week average) and I had plenty of simpler posts just sharing a screenshot or an accomplishment from in game (mostly New World because... well... that is mostly what I played this year).

2024 goals
I do still want to do video content so we'll add that as the first item for 2024: do some video content.  I have an outline of how I'd want the videos to flow and a tagline of: "To the point. No filler. Gameplay footage." with an asterisk of *Not a pro gamer.  We'll see if I can get there this year!

I am going to stick with the 5 posts a week for 2024.  This works well for me.

As far as content this year?  I want to continue to share my gaming adventures, but I also want to spend some more time on other game bloggers blogs and using their posts and prompts for my own posts.  I really enjoyed Blaugust 2023 and look forward to it in August 2024, but I don't need a special event to journey out more into the blog-o-sphere.

Lastly I want to see if I can drive some comments on the blog.  10+ years ago I used to enjoy hundreds of comments per month and then I started posting sparsely and even though I post regularly again the comments have not followed.  I have some ideas here; more to come.

Stretch goal: I am debating if I want to try and do some monetization of the site.  I do the odd Amazon affiliate link here and there but maybe a sidebar ad.  I don't like ads but I also want to offset the cost of domain registration.  Also I have seen folks with far less traffic than this blog enjoys earn a decent amount of ad revenue.

What Disappointed Me In 2023

I can confirm that 2023 was a year and with it came some disappointments.

Starfield (game)

starfield
Starfield is ending the year with "mostly negative" reviews on Steam and it 100% deserves them.  This loading screen infested mess of nothingness is an embarrassment to gaming.  I was so hyped when the original trailers came out, but they were misleading to the extreme.  The game in the trailer is not the game we got.

With that said the game we got is what we should probably have expected. It is the same game engine behind their other games, like Skyrim, and performs exactly the same.  The challenge with Starfield is it's not a single terrestrial world and thus ends up with far more loading screens to get players between planets, ships, space, buildings, etc.

Add onto the loading screens a combat system that is lackluster, a story that is nonsensical, and a myriad of systems that never make sense when brought together and you have the biggest gaming disappointment of 2023 and possibly the last decade.  How this game sold 10+ million copies is beyond me.  Had I not gotten my copy with my new graphics card purchase I'd of hit refund on Steam within the first hour.

rebel moon movie poster
Rebel Moon (movie)

If you told me Rebel Moon was a movie about Starfield I would believe it.  Story that makes no sense? Check. Every cliche under the sun (ha!)? Check. This movie doesn't deserve the words I've typed let alone more words.  Such a disappointment.  Do better Netflix.

New World (live service game)

Some may find this surprising considering 91% of my game time this year has been spent playing New
World, but I can't help but admit that the end of year really soured my mood on the game.  We did get the Rise of the Angry Earth expansion which did bring amazing features like mounts, but it was very lacking in content.  The five extra levels (cap raised from 60 to 65) were laughable as far as effort-required and the new story + zone lasted all of an hour.  I hate to admit it but that was NOT enough to be worthy of the title "expansion".  I'd rather have had this delivered as a seasonal update.

new world

The lacking expansion would have been fine as it was coming right before a big set of new features that were listed on the road map.  Then the road map was updated -- and this is why New World is on my disappointment's list -- they literally canceled the majority of the road map and delivered almost nothing.  Instead of the expansion being a launching pad into the future it was a speed bump that most players were done with the first week it came out.  I am still a huge New World fan but find myself less interested each update.

To cap it off we did not get a 2024 road map yet and instead have been asked to come back in May for "something big" which is mind boggling considering the number of items that were good enough to put on a road map before and are now many don't even sound like they are being considered.  How does that happen?  I can get a one off feature being dropped but the majority!?  What the heck.

Green Bay Packers Defense (supposedly a football team)

What can I say.  We entered the year worried about whether Jordan Love was the future QB of the Packers.  Little did we know the age-old Green Bay Packers "worst defense in the league.... again" was the real worry.  If we make the play offs... it will be a miracle.

Not Final Thoughts on The Finals

The Finals is an objective-based game where teams of players compete to "cash out" of a futuristic kill-or-be-killed game show complete with bombastic announcer.  Featuring a heavy dose of destruction (that matters) it is easily the most refreshing FPS experience I've played in a long time.

I knew I was in for a ride when in my first game I started the match out with a building collapsing around me and players making a mad scramble up the crumbling pieces to fight over a cashout box.  A lot of games promise destruction, but there is nothing quite like the destruction that The Finals allows for.  Destruction is as much of a strategy as coordinating movement with your team.  Objective on the floor above you?  Destroy the floor and bring it down to you.  Team defending a hardened upper floor in a building?  Bring the entire building down like a lumberjack bringing down a tree.

To go with destruction there is also a plethora of traversal options for players (worth noting that destruction itself is a traversal option).  Grappling hooks, ziplines, wall running, invisibility grenades, and anything a creative mind can come up with like jumping on an exploding bottle and hitting it to send it off like a rocket.

The game breaks down into three classes: light, medium, and heavy.  Light is light and mobile but are paper thin.  Medium are the support class and the main healing class, but is no chump as they are able to dish out damage. Heavy is a bulldozer; whether sledge hammering down a building or Juggernaut-style charging through walls (in fact it makes me want to say the line every time I use the charge ability).

Each class has access to it's own set of gadgets and primary weapons so each class can carve out its own role.  The game also allows a backup inventory that can be changed out between respawns.  The backup is not a full selection so there is decisions to be made going into matches.  This isn't that much of a concern in quick play matches but I suspect it will be a big part of competitive play.  For my casual games so far it's been nice to be able to change stuff up to try things out inside of a match instead of having to wait between matches.

What I like most about The Finals is that it doesn't take itself too seriously.  There are so many "that doesn't make sense but I'll allow it" moments.  The moment I realized you can melee attack an exploding barrel while holding it to "prime" it's explosion like a grenade was awesome.  Seeing folks slap C4 to casino chairs to use as mobile bombs, watching someone climb a building using turrets as a ladder, and using fire bottles as rocket sleds (stand on top of them and shoot the valve to give it a whirl) are all amazing moments you don't find in other games these days.

The shenanigans may also be what gives the game a shorter shelf life than other FPS games.  For every eye catching moment there is a "what the..." moment to go with it. Much of those moments take away from an otherwise sensible objective-based game.  The disparity will grow between players who know the game's hi-jinks and those that are just jumping in for some fun which may leave this game to just the ultra competitive crowd which would be a shame.  Matches are becoming more and more lopsided as each day passes and for those of us not interested in rank play that may end the fun sooner than later.

Over all the game is a blast to play and since it is free to play I would encourage anyone interested to give it a try.  If anything just load up the heavy class with a sledge hammer on the practice map and enjoy destroying the buildings there.

Modern Storytelling

Just a random thought for the day as I had no creative energy for any other post.  I recently re-watched Groundhog Day for the first time in decades and it was as good as I remembered it to be.  It was a delight to be able to share with my teenager as well.  One thing stuck out to me at the end of the movie: it never explains the mystery of how it all happened and that is part of what makes it such a great movie.

I think modern story telling, especially in games, could learn a lot from Groundhog Day.  So many movies, books, and games go out of their way trying to explain the mystery.  Anyone remember the Lost television show and it's eventual attempts at explaining the great mysteries of the show?  I do and it just didn't work.

This doesn't mean always explaining the mystery is a bad idea. Sometimes story tellers nail it.  If you've played Bioshock there is a lot of mystery to start that game and eventually it pays off in an amazing reveal.  So it can be done right, but it so often is not or the mystery is explained when it didn't need to be.

Brandon Sanderson is an author who I feel falls into this issue a good bit in his stories.  He painstakingly goes over details of his worlds to the point where there is little mystery left and when mystery is a big aspect of his story, such as in Elantris, the eventual explanation was so unsatisfying (really; it was just a drawing a single line!?!?!).  I still like Brandon's books, but I do wish he'd sometimes just leave the mystery to us vs a need to have everything fit neat and tidy into the Cosmere.

So if you are an author, game writer, or screen writer please take a moment to consider why a mystery needs to be explained at all because chances are it doesn't need to be. Sometimes its better to just not know so we can enjoy the story.

Black Friday/Cyber Monday Gamer Haul

It's that time of year again where we share what we bought over the Black Friday and Cyber Monday shop-a-thon.  For me I nabbed a few gamer things!

First up was what my teenager has been waiting for: his own gaming PC.  We ordered all the parts which will make up his holiday haul.  He is also getting some hand-me-downs from my recent upgrade (GPU and PSU).  We went with an AMD build again; Ryzen 7600X CPU, 5700 XT GPU (hand me down), 2 TB NVMe SSD, and 32 GB memory.  I'd say I got great deals but it was pretty lackluster as far as deals go this year.

Model I
Next I snagged a couple items for myself.  First I jumped on Glorious's free shipping deal to get my Model I wired mouse.  I have a Model O wired currently and it sold me on the lightweight mouse.  The only downside of the Model O for me is that it has only two side buttons.  The Model I brings three side buttons and a fourth "sniper" button (defaults to lower DPI for sniping in FPS games).  It will take a bit to retrain myself to the four buttons but so far so good and it keeps the same lightweight feel!

I was nostalgic for some holiday season tunes ringing through the halls (home office) so am finally filling the "no speakers" gap for my home PC.  I grabbed this soundbar to fill the role.

Lastly I surfed the board game sales and like PC parts... it felt like a down year as far as deals go.  I did end up grabbing the Arkham Horror The Card Game Revised Core Set which was at an all time low.  This was on my "want to try" list and now that I have a teenager in the family it felt like the right time to adult our co-op games.  Looking forward to giving this a whirl.

Nerf Flamethrower!?

Nyce Gaming posted a video on Youtube discussing upcoming changes in New World that he feels will push over the firestaff + flamethrower combo over the edge.  Let us discuss indeed!

First, some context.  I have played Firestaff/Sword and Shield in Heavy armor since New World launched over two years ago.  I am well known on Castle of Steel as "that guy that runs heavy flamethrower" and having played many arena matches against Nyce Gaming himself I can't help feel I shaped his opinion somewhat.

The first area that Nyce touches on is how flamethrower is "one button" press and how the player doesn't run out of mana and with the right haste abilities can scoot around with the flamethrower without getting hit (note: he shows this in PvE).  This is a fair assessment of the ability but I'd ask what is different with this than infinite left click melee light attacks?  Light attacks require no resource management, are area of effect (AoE) damage, and can hit much harder than flamethrower.  Many light attack chains also apply various debuffs and DoT (damage over time) effects.

If you consider PvE for a moment where melee is king because of the cleave AoE most ranged weapons suffer a good bit comparatively (which is why AGS made it so ranged weapons do more damage in PvE).  Again no melee user is spending a resource such as "mana" to do their damage so it is a mute point that flamethrower can be used "without losing mana".  Mana is dumb in the first place in New World if melee has no equivalent such as having to use their stamina to attack.  Also the "kiting" shown in the video is doable by any ranged weapon; nothing unique to flamethrower here.

If you consider PvP a lot of the same points as PvE are relevant.  Again melee is out there never even having to think about managing a resource to be able to attack.  Players also stagger and stun a lot more in PvP than you experience in PvE; each of which stops flamethrower.  Also popular in PvP currently is Alacritous Punishment which is +20% damage to players with haste so having haste + flamethrower going can open you up. Flamethrower also slows the player down, even with haste, which is problematic in PvP and allows players to get away.

The only real point made at the start here is flamethrower is one button press vs other parts of the game require more button presses/clicks.  The argument about mana is mute until such time melee also has a resource pool to worry about.

Next Nyce talks about "they can whip it right back out" which refers to the flamethrower upgraded ability where it can be used without a cooldown compared to most abilities that have a cooldown after being used.  Having no cooldown flamethrower requires multiple investment points in the tree which means there is opportunity cost going this route as the player cannot invest elsewhere.  There was also a 2.5s cooldown added if the player is interrupted using flamethrower.

Further into the video Nyce starts talking about the Firestaff artifact Inferno.  In the current version of the live game this changes damage to strike (instead of fire), damage scaling off STR, +damage to targets within 8m, and has the incinerate perk locked.  In the version on PTR (assumed for next patch) the strike damage is replaced by fire damage and the incinerate perk is gone.

new world inferno
Inferno Live vs PTR (as of 11/27/2023)

Nyce posits that this change will mean Inferno becomes the defacto best firestaff and will encourage flamethrower use.  I think this is a fair argument; the changes to inferno look very strong.  I'd argue though it is not just about flamethrower... it will be good for any firestaff player.  And more worrying than flamethrower will be firestaff/blunderbuss combo as that combo is almost always done right into the face of the opponent.

So I'll jump on the bandwagon with Nyce that the PTR Inferno is too strong but will argue it's less about flamethrower and more about other builds such as the blunderbuss combo that is already top dog in PvP.  The only real downside of Inferno is it can't slot a gem (gem slot is not allowed to be added).

Personally I don't like when artifacts offer straight up mathematically better versions of the weapon the way Inferno is doing on the PTR.  I much prefer artifacts that are designed for the player to lean into the uniqueness of the artifact.  Original Inferno with Empowering Incinerate did exactly that.  The only issue with original Inferno was the conversion to strike damage vs staying as fire damage; that completely gimped the damage.  I think keeping Empowering Incinerate on the weapon would help offset the change back to fire damage and fit better thematically.

If Inferno goes into live as it is on PTR it will be my goal to snag one as soon as possible.  My prediction as well will be firestaff/bludnerbuss will be that much more of a problem than it is currently.  This basically is giving that combo close to guaranteed max empower cap (+50%) on the firestaff portion of the wombo combo.  If you think it hits hard now wait until it hits even harder.

Over all I think the constant cries to "nerf flamethrower" are less about it being too strong (Nyce says as much in the video that flamethrower is not too strong) and more about folks perception of how "easy" flamethrower is compared to whatever thing they are playing as.  If flamethower gets changed in some meaningful way there will just be whatever is next on the list for these folks that is "too easy" compared to whatever left click spam they are playing.

Again, I've played with firestaff since day one.  I played it from when it was nerfed into worthlessness all the way until now where it is in a pretty good spot for my build.  I do see where over all firestaff is probably too strong (especially the combo with blunderbuss) and that is the larger concern in my book for the PTR version of Inferno.  The issue is not flamethrower; it is just the fact that firestaff + INT attribute bonuses make it some of the best damage in the game.  Flamethrower itself is in a good spot.  The damage feels balanced and the interrupt has done a lot to get away from the "whip it back out" of the past.  You also don't see many light firestaff players using flamethrower because it does open you up to big hits which is why you are seeing more of my style of flamethrowing: in heavy!

Rethinking New World's Progression (Season 3/Expansion)

new world
New World hit the rest button on gear and progression for Season 3 and their expansion: The Rise of the Angry Earth.  The new progression system is friendlier players and eliminates many barriers to end game items.  However, I can't help but feel like much of the end game loop is made pointless by how it works and there was an opportunity to better design the progression path.

First we need to note that the gear score (GS) max rose from 625 to 700 so 700 is the top end of progression.  Then we can look at the current buckets of progression.

  • Expeditions
    • Regular - up to 675 GS
    • M1 - up to 700 GS
    • M2 - up to 700 GS
    • M3 - up to 700 GS
  • Artifact - always drop at 700 GS (multiple methods
  • Gypsum Kiln Named Item Upgrade - 700 GS
  • Gypsum Kiln Named Mutator/Expedition Replica - 700 GS
  • Crafting - for all intents and purpose - 700 GS
  • PvP tracks - mostly 675 GS, but up to 700 GS
  • PvP caches - up to 700 GS

As you can see most all content drops up to 700 GS which seems great until you consider the "up to" part and compare to the ability to "upgrade" named items.  Named item upgrades also allow a third perk to be selected giving more variety.  Getting that awesome 699 GS drop is fleeting as most players likely are going to slot in a 700 GS kiln-upgraded named item.

Now look at that pile of other 690+ GS legendary items that just came out of that mutation run or PvP reward cache... and it's all worthless.  No one is buying it on the market (not that much of it can be sold since its mostly bind on pickup) and you aren't going to use any of it except as a temporary stop gap in some builds.  We are right back where we were with past New World: most legendary item drops are nothing more than something you salvage.

I think a lot more items could have been made useful and a more natural progression curve experienced through a few simple tweaks I've noted below.

The big change: remove named item upgrades in the gypsum kiln.  Instead use the same recipe and materials to allow a player to change the 3rd perk on a named item but keep the same GS level.

Next change the GS reward range of each type of content.

Expeditions should have been 625-660 for regular, 660-680 for M1, 680-695 for M2, and 690-700 for M3 (artifacts can drop at any mutation level still).

PvP tracks reward up to 700 GS but higher GS chance the higher the track level you are.  Artifacts drop as they do today on the tracks.

Crafting can mostly remain as it is, but I'd dial back recipes like shard of pride and chromatic seal allowing a 700 GS craft.  Instead have it be in the 680+ range.  Leave the 700 GS perfect crafts for the perfect recipe. It's too easy to spend a fraction of the time, effort, and materials using the other crafting methods to get 700 GS crafts.

With these changes, suddenly all of those 650+ GS drops become very interesting.  You may use a 681 GS weapon for a week in M2s until you get a 690 to drop.  You would likely take that 675 PvP reward track option because there isn't easy to mint 700 GS options.  If you do mutations you are slowly working up the GS reward levels.  So many more items become useful.

Instead what we got was a system where on day 1 of expansion launch I logged in, farmed up a named fire staff, and immediately upgraded it to 700 GS, meaning 99.9% of all drops for my main build's weapon were going to be worthless to me.  Excepting the daily cooldown and 5k gold cost; chromatic seal upgrades of named items is the "cheat" of end game progression.

Don't get me wrong: I don't mind folks being able to get into end game gear quickly but like the other day where I completed multiple M2 expeditions (the 2nd hardest content in the end game) and I am staring at a pile of 25+ legendary items that I will never use, never sell, and in turn will just scrap.  The simple change of the kiln upgrades not skipping to 700 GS would make many of those 25+ legendary drops possible useful drops.

Again, I want to emphasize that I like where the game is at with progression.  It is easier and faster than ever before to get into new end game builds.  However, it is not much of "progression" system... it is very much "skip to the end" just like the last system with waiting to upgrade from 600 to 625 via umbrals... just now its dark matter and named items.

New World Invasion Screenshot

Jumped into a corrupted invasion last night in New World. This game mode makes for some epic screenshots. We were shorthanded and didn't fill out the roster so lost the invasion in the end but it was fun.  Invasions are also a great source for dark matter; even with a loss I netted 40!
